| Led this organization through a difficult transitional period. The Council for a Better Louisiana is a 40-year-old "good government watchdog organization" with a staff of 5 and a budget of $700,000. |
| Rebuilt organizational structure including institutionalizing annual plans, program goal setting, detailed budgeting process, performance standards, measures of success, and long range planning. |
| Developed fundraising plan for the organization and successfully raised budget through active personal solicitation of individuals, corporations, and foundations. |
| Served as chief spokesperson in the media, meetings, governmental roundtables, and in testimony before the legislature. Helped passed the first early childhood program for the state. |
THE NATURE CONSERVANCY 1984-2000
Worked for this premier conservation organization over 16 years in the following capacities:
Vice President, Executive Director of "Wings of the Americas" 1995-2000
| Conservation Science, The Nature Conservancy. Worked with this new Conservation Division of TNC to develop strategy, goals, and to increase funding. |
| International Program, Wings of the Americas. At the request of the President and CEO John Sawhill developed a business plan for the start up of the first international bird program for TNC. With National Board of Governor's approval was hired as Executive Director to develop program from scratch. Hired staff of 12, developed and implemented annual and long-range plans and in first year raised budget of $1.5 million. Subsequent years raised this operating budget as well as funding to establish partnerships between states and Latin American countries, including Ohio-Belize, Pennsylvania-Ecuador, and Connecticut-Jamaica, to protect habitat for migratory birds. Cultivated and solicited funds from major individual donors, corporations, and foundations. Overcame organizational obstacles to a new "cross-cutting" program. |

Executive Director of The Nature Conservancy of Louisiana 1986-1994
| Established program in the state. Secured the first major gift of $250,000 from a corporation for start-up funding. Responsibilities included hiring and managing staff of 20. Setting annual and long-range plans. |
| Built effective statewide Board of Directors from state's most prominent and most influential respected citizens. |
| Fundraised $1,000,000+ annual budget from growing membership, active solicitation of major gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations. Additionally secured more that $50 million in private and public funding for habitat acquisition. This required testifying in front of congressional committees and state legislative bodies. Secured gifts of thousands of acres of habitat through corporate donations. |
| Acquired and protected during tenure nearly a quarter of a million acres of critical habitat, in six new National Wildlife Refuges, and twelve private nature preserves. |
| Appointed chair of the Land Acquisition Task Force by Governors Roemer and Edwards. This task force was the first successful collaborative effort by the environmental community, state, and private sector resource users. |
| Acted as spokesperson on television, radio, and in the print media. Gave hundreds of speeches often in front of very large audiences. |

The Nature Conservancy Conservation Fellow Summer 1988
| Facilitated start-up of sister Bolivian conservation organization, Fundacion Amigos de la Naturalezaas as one of the first Conservation Fellows of TNC. |
| Worked in Santa Cruz, Bolivia with core group of Bolivians to help them start their new conservation organization by developing Board, budgets, fundraising plan, solicitation of corporations and individuals, annual plan, and presentation. In 1998 this organization received international recognition for protecting close to ten million acres of habitat. |
